I believe that healing in community means that we share what we have learned on our journeys.
I believe in the power of storytelling to allow us to see each other, and to see ourselves.
I believe our ancestors left us a blueprint and are waiting for us to notice their guidance to co-create.
I believe we will learn these lessons by being present enough to see & curious enough to investigate.
I believe this is how we evolve. Together.
It all begins with an idea.
My name is Najmah Ahmad and I am the founder of the Freed Black Girl platform. What began as an idea for a podcast has now evolved into a platform for collective healing, learning & liberation. This is achieved through storytelling, community workshops & events; as well as an online store and incubator for Black Women entrepreneurs– The Unbought and Unbossed Academy.
For over 17 years, I worked at the intersection of education, economic strategy, and policy. My career spanned higher education, student affairs, school districts, and national youth and education policy organizations, with a focus on career readiness and supporting Black and brown youth systematically locked out of opportunity. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Gender & Diversity Studies from Xavier University, and a master’s degree in College Student Affairs from Nova Southeastern University.
I have dedicated my work to supporting people at a transition point in their lives. Those times that can be the most frightening, where we can feel alone. Where we don’t know who we are because we are no longer who we used to be, and still not who we will become. The work is finding comfort and safety in the present.
Throughout my own healing with a somatic therapist and journey as a full-time entrepreneur with my education & economic justice consulting & coaching firm, The Chisholm Group— I have been navigating a journey back to myself.
This is a lifelong evolution and I have learned some things along the way. Like how to move forward even when things feel unsure, or there is no clear map. It all begins with an idea, and trusting yourself— and something greater, to be able to live the life you are destined to live.
Thank you for being in community!
With Gratitude,
Najmah
